In-House Fabrication

Every steel building project has a fabrication bottleneck. Third-party steel fabricators have their own order books, their own lead times and their own priority projects. When yours slips in the queue, your programme slips too. MSB Group provide structural steel fabrication services in-house at our facility in Cinderford, Gloucestershire. Your project goes to the front of our fabrication schedule - not a third party's.

What We Fabricate

1

Portal Frame Primary Structure

Columns, rafters, haunches, apex connections and base plates for standard and specialist portal frame buildings. We fabricate the full range of primary structural elements - from single-span agricultural portals to wide multi-bay industrial frames. Every component is cut, drilled and welded to issued structural drawings at our Cinderford workshop.

2

Secondary Steelwork & Connections

Purlins, side rails, bracing systems, eaves beams and gable frames - the full secondary steel package that completes the building envelope structure. We also produce all structural connections in-house: bolted and welded joints to specification, including base plates, moment connections and splices. Connections are checked against the structural engineer's drawings before dispatch.

3

Bespoke & Complex Sections

Non-standard sections, specialist connections and bespoke structural elements for complex building forms. If the structural engineer has specified something beyond a standard portal, our fabrication team can work from shop drawings to deliver it. We also fabricate structural mezzanine frames where required within building projects.

The Advantage

The Advantage of In-House Fabrication

When MSB fabricate and build your steel frame, the design, fabrication and construction teams are the same people. Changes at design stage reach the workshop floor directly. Issues identified during fabrication are resolved before they reach site. With MSB, the communication chain that costs days on outsourced jobs simply doesn't exist.

Faster lead times

Our order book is our own, scheduled around your construction programme.

Better quality control

Every weld, connection and piece of steelwork inspected before leaving Cinderford.

Cost savings

No fabricator margin on top of our build price. The saving is passed to you.

Industries We Serve

In-house fabrication for sectors where structural precision and programme reliability are non-negotiable.

Logistics

Structural Steel Fabrication in the UK - A Practical Guide

Further information

What Is Structural Steel Fabrication?

Structural steel fabrication is the process of cutting, drilling, welding and assembling raw steel sections into the primary framework of a building. For a typical UK portal frame building, this means columns, rafters, haunches, base plates, purlins and all connecting elements. In-house fabrication - where the same company that builds the frame also manufactures the steel - eliminates the handoff delays that affect multi-contractor projects.

BS EN 1090 and UK Quality Standards

All structural steelwork fabricated for permanent use in UK buildings must comply with BS EN 1090 - the European standard for execution of steel structures. It sets out execution classes depending on structural complexity and consequence of failure. Welding must be carried out by qualified welders to the appropriate execution class. MSB Group fabricates to BS EN 1090 across all projects.

Choosing a Steel Fabricator in the UK

Key questions: do they fabricate in-house or use sub-suppliers? What lead time can they commit? What execution class do they work to? For clients who want a single point of accountability from drawing to handover, an integrated fabricator-contractor like MSB Group removes the interface entirely. For clients needing fabrication only, a supply-only arrangement is also available - contact us with your drawings.
